At Schumacher Orthopedics, we believe not every joint problem or injury requires surgery. In fact, many common orthopedic issues like sprains, arthritis and simple fractures can be treated with nonsurgical orthopedic treatments. With a consultation to our office, Dr. Gregory Schumacher will evaluate your condition to see which nonsurgical treatment would best fit your needs.
Nonsurgical Orthopedic Treatments Available at Schumacher Orthopedics
Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) Injections
PRP injections are a natural way of using your own body’s components to help heal itself. To gather these injections, we first require you to have your blood drawn to have our plasma machine separate the platelets and mix them with the remaining blood cells. Once this is done, we perform an injection using your own platelets to help heal conditions such as:
- Shoulder pain (rotator cuff tear)
- Tendonitis
- ACL tears
- Sprains
- Arthritis in the knee/shoulder/ankle/hip
- Tennis elbow
Corticosteroid Injections
Corticosteroid injections are commonly used to relieve pain and inflammation found in the joints or tendons of your knee, hip, shoulder or elbow. To determine if a steroid injection is the best option for you, we will need to review your medical history, age and level of physical fitness.
Ultrasound-Guided Injections
Our orthopedic surgeon and team use ultrasound technology to guide PRP and steroid injections. These involve less radiation and allow us to pinpoint exactly the tendon or joint we need to treat.
Testosterone Replacement Therapy (TRT)
If you are a male with low levels of testosterone that have been proven with a test, our orthopedic surgeon may recommend testosterone replacement therapy. This is a simple injection we perform to guide the testosterone back to where it is needed.
Benefits of Nonsurgical Treatments
Not only do nonsurgical orthopedic treatments limit the possibility of undergoing a surgical procedure, but they can also:
- Boost your quality of life
- Improve the mobility of your joints
- Minimize pain and inflammation
- Treat arthritis
- Speed up your recovery time
